Inauguration of the 10-kilometer Orient Emitter Tunnel to improve management of rain and residual waters in the Valley of Mexico.

Carlos Slim Helú assisted the opening of the first 10 kilometers of the Orient Emitter Tunnel, the ceremony was held by Mexico's president Enrique Peña Nieto.

This first 10 kilometers are the first stage of a full 62 kilometer tunnel, this project will be "the most important to be built in our country", said the president.

"This first stage initiated is only the first 10 kilometers of this project, but are 10 very valuable and important kilometers", said president Peña Nieto, also pointed out that this first stage is able to deviate 40 square meters per second of water, which will allow to double the capacity of water dislodging the metropolitan area from 165 to more than 315 square meters per second.

It was explained at the event that with the opening of the Tunnel, the risk of flood in the Mexican valleys metropolitan area is being diminished. There was also a request to the population to stop throwing trash on the streets to avoid problems in drainage and culvert systems.
